This Cavalry Colonel's double border shoulder strap is a typical Civil War era piece. The field is velvet. The wings
are partly formed from sequins. Double border straps are uncommon after 1865. The border is made from both bright and
dead bullion mixed in a regularly repeating pattern. The majority of Civil War straps have this kind of border. Straps made
later in the 19th Century tend to be all dead bullion, which is true of the post-Civil War ones that I have pictured
here. Reproduction straps tend to have the two types of bullion as well but often the bright bullion is in a greater proportion
than originals. How about another one?
