This Staff Colonel's shoulder strap is a post-Civil War era piece. The field is melton wool. The wings
lack any sequins and are formed from bright and dead bullion. Pettibone's involvement in the military trade began
in 1865 when he became a clerk in the firm of John Bonner. He did not have his own firm until much later. Markings
are fairly uncommon on Civil War straps but can be found on a small number of them, particularly the patented ones.
