Cavalry Musician

This 1866 Quartermaster photograph of a cavalry musician shows the braid pattern on the uniform jacket, worn by mounted musicians. Notice that yellow can appear very dark in a black and white photograph. His Jeff Davis (Hardee) hat should be looped up on the right (sword arm) side. The buttons worn on the uniform jacket are the small (cuff size) ones. Similar buttons are on the collar. A saber knot hangs from the saber's guard.

Elements of the Uniform: Crossed Saber (Cavalry Branch) Insignia, Hat Eagle , Shoulder Scales, Enlisted Buttons, Sword Belt Buckle, and Cavalry Saber.
