Hilt Detail Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword

The workmanship on the hilt of a foot officer's sword mades it a thing of beauty as well as an intrument of war. This sword was adopted on April 9, 1850 based on a French model. It was used by company grade officers of infantry, artillery and riflemen. The U.S. Army used this pattern until 1872 when the Model 1860 staff and field officers sword was adopted for nearly all officers.
