Unknown Infantry Corporal
The unidentified corporal is wearing a regulation dark blue frock coat and light blue trousers and holding his forage cap (kepi). The forage cap appears to have the regimental number "25" and the company letter "G" with the infantry horn indicating his branch. This is likely an early war image. He does not have a corps badge on his forage cap, introduced in 1863. The photograph also lacks a tax stamp, an 1864 law and is a full standing image, more popular early in the war rather than a vignette more popular towards the end. It is common for soldiers to pose with their regimental and company insignia in evidence.
