Is it Civil War? NO

Many people assume that any forage cap (kepi) must be Civil War. This is an model 1872 forage cap that is missing its chin strap and side buttons (lost to a prior owner's hungery Weimaraner). The model 1872 cap is cut lower than the Civil War forage cap and has a more defined brow band, which is clearly seen in our image.
