Light (Field) Artillery Private's Uniform

The jacket is that worn by all mounted men with the scarlet trim of artillery. The trousers were light blue and were the only ones retaining the light blue color in the 1861 regulation revision. He is wearing a shako which replaced the hat for dress in certain units, but was not worn in the field. Light artillery units retained sky blue trousers in the 1861 Regulations. The black strap with a fringed end is a saber knot.
